World Health Speaks on Possibility of Monkeypox to cause Pandemic

World Health Speaks on Monkeypox amid its Growing Cases

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION – WHO spoke on the possibility that monkeypox will cause another global pandemic.

Several countries greatly suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic. The said disease cost a lot of lives across the globe, pulled the economy of several nations down, closed businesses, and urged the people to live under a new normal setting. The disease started spreading more than two (2) years ago and there are still coronavirus cases now and many countries continue to impose restrictions.

The WHO previously stressed that the pandemic is not over anywhere if it is not over everywhere. The statement came amid the easing of restrictions as the cases dropped. The health authorities encourage the public to continue practicing the proper health protocols.

However, amid the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, several cases of a disease that was already endemic in several African countries were recorded in several nations. The said disease is monkeypox.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, at least 20 countries have recorded cases of monkeypox. The United States is one of the countries with monkeypox cases. There were cases logged in Washington, California, Utah, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, and Florida. Britain has also reported cases of the said disease that targets the skin.

Amid the increasing cases of monkeypox in nearly two dozen countries, there are worries over the possibility of another pandemic. Meanwhile, according to the report, World Health is not concerned about a global pandemic due to monkeypox at the moment. Health expert Rosamund Lewis expressed that “it is still possible to stop this outbreak before it gets larger”.

UN health agency admitted that monkeypox is causing an “unusual situation” but stressed that there is no reason to panic over the virus. Reportedly, it spreads through close contact.
