Vince Tañada aimed his movie to be the “katapat” of the movie of Darryl Yap
The movie Maid in Malacañang, written and directed by Darryl Yap, will premiere on August 3 and director Vince Tañada said that he also chose this date to release his movie Katips.
MiM continues to receive criticisms and negative reactions from people who are anti-Marcos and human rights groups who condemn what happened during Martial Law. Just recently, Direk Vince, who is a Palanca awardee, aired his negative reaction as well against the movie of Direk Darryl which intends to tell what happened during the last 72 hours of the Marcoses in Malacañang.
Based on the article in Balita, during a recent media conference, Vince Tañada admitted that he really intended to compete against the movie of Darryl Yap. “Nilabanan ko talaga yung Maid in Malacañang. China-challenge ako… china-challenge tayo ng Maid in Malacañang, kaya nag-react nang ganoon si Direk Joel (Lamangan). Sabi ni Direk Joel, gagawa siya ng mga pelikula, eh ito nagawa na naming,” the Katips director said.
To recall, award-winning director Joel Lamangan also slammed the movie about the Marcoses. The veteran director said that he will definitely do a movie also that will debunk Maid in Malacañang. However, Direk Darryl replied to Direk Joel’s rant with respect.
Direk Vince also addressed the bashers who are criticizing his stand. He said that there were those who argued that he was too young to experience the “brutality” during Martial Law. However, the director said that he did not need to experience those things in order to know the “horrors” of the said era.
“Masakit po bilang bata ang maranasan ito lalo’t alam mong nakipaglaban lang si Senador Lorenzo Tañada para sa katotohanan. Paki-research na lang po ang buhay n’ya. #KATIPS,” Direk Vince said.
Meanwhile, the director of Katips showcased the FAMAS nominations that his movie got. “Huy FAMAS ito! The oldest and most prestigious Award Giving Body for films. And just to be nominated is truly a blessing. Sobrang hirap ang dinanas namin shooting my very first professional and commercial film KATIPS. Kaya sobrang thankful ako na manominate man lang. PERO 17 NOMINATIONS FOR KATIPS!” the director wrote in the caption of his post.
