1 Dead & 44 Injured Recorded in Abra During Magnitude 7.3 Quake, Authorities Say
The authorities reported that at least one person died and 44 others got injured during the magnitude 7.3 quake in Abra.
Today (July 27, 2022), a 7.3 magnitude quake hits Abra and the epicenter is located at 17.63° North, 120.74°East – 002 km North 20° East of Lagangilang. Metro Manila and nearby areas also felt the powerful earthquake.
The strong tremor has a depth of origin of 025 kilometers and was tectonic in origin. The unexpected disaster causes damage to numerous establishments and cut down the power lines in various areas across the province.
However, PHIVOLCS chief Renato Solidum claimed that there is no threat of a tsunami to the Philippines following the magnitude 7.3 quake in Abra.
President Marcos has contacted the Department of Social Welfare and Development as well as the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for immediate rescue and relief operations in quake-affected areas.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary for possible landslides and aftershocks.
Recently, local disaster management officer Arnel Garcia reported that a female boarder at Barangay Zone 5 in Bangued town, Abra passed away after the wall in her dorm collapsed during the quake. Garcia did not name the victim.
The town official also said that 44 people suffered injuries after they were hit by falling objects.
