President Marcos to Deploy Rescue & Relief Teams in abra After Powerful Quake

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the immediate deployment of rescue and relief teams after the powerful quake in Abra.

On Wednesday morning (July 27, 2022), a powerful 7.3 magnitude quake jolts Abra causing severe damage to numerous properties and establishments in the province. Metro Manila and nearby provinces also felt the tremor.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) located the quake’s epicenter at 17.63° North, 120.74°East – 002 km North 20° East of Lagangilang with a depth of origin of 025 kilometers.

Aftermath

The powerful earthquake causes severe ground shaking that causes damage to the walls and even shut down the power lines in several areas. Several buildings also collapsed during the strong tremor.

PHIVOLCS chief Renato Solidum also announced that there is no threat of a tsunami to the Philippines following the magnitude 7 earthquake.

Recently, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said that BBM has ordered the quick deployment of rescue and relief teams in Abra. Angeles said that Marcos is already coordinating with various agencies to assist the quake victims.

President Marcos is already working with the Department of Social Welfare and Development as well as the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for immediate rescue and relief operations.

“Pres. Marcos also calls on the telcos to provide immediate assistance and free communications to all locations where towers have gone down to keep these communications open,” Cruz-Angeles said.
