Vergeire Reacts To Appointment as DOH OIC by Marcos Jr.

Marcos Jr. Picks Vergeire To Be the OIC of DOH Until July 31

VERGEIRE – Former Department of Health (DOH) spokesperson Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire spoke on her appointment by President Bongbong Marcos as the health department’s officer-in-charge (OIC).

A new administration has officially started its six-year term. It was last June 30 at the Philippine National Museum when Pres. Bongbong Marcos took his oath as the country’s Chief Executive. His inauguration was graced by his family, Cabinet members, and several guests including former presidents of the Philippines.

Prior to the oath-taking, Marcos Jr. named several appointees for the different government agencies and departments. Most of the appointees have accepted the offers of the President in gratitude and have started laying out their plans during their term.

However, there are still some agencies which Marcos has yet to choose a secretary for. One of these is the Department of Health (DOH) which leads the country in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

While a secretary has yet to be chosen, Pres. Bongbong Marcos appointed an officer-in-charge (OIC) for the Department of Health (DOH). Malacañang recently announced that Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire will serve as the health department’s OIC until July 31 or until a “replacement has been appointed”.

The Doctor was appointed as the undersecretary of DOH in 2015. She is also the face of the Department amid the COVID-19 pandemic as she is the one who faces the press and gives updates regarding the response against the pandemic and the situation in the country.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire is thankful to Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the Filipino people for the opportunity to serve. She promised to continuously communicate with different sectors for the implementation of universal health care in the country.

Vergeire also stressed that it is their aim in DOH to boost the COVID-19 vaccinations in the country to prevent a surge in the COVID cases and protect the health of the health workers.
