Darryl Yap on making ‘Maid In Malacanang’: ‘Amalgamation of Q&A w/ Imee Marcos’

This is how Darryl Yap came up with the story of his upcoming movie

Director-writer Darryl Yap said that the movie Maid In Malacanang is the amalgamation of the question-and-answer that he had with Senator Imee Marcos.

In a teaser poster previously released by the director, it was said that the movie will showcase the last 72 hours of the Marcos family in the Palace. It was also said that the story came from a “very reliable source.”

During the election season, Darryl has worked closely with the Marcoses, especially Senator Imee who was included in his satire videos. In that span of time, the director had conversations with the Senator, based on the article n Bandera.

Four months now we’ve been together (Sen. Imee) and like every week and we are like talking and talking about what’s happening,” Darryl Yap said. Through this, he was able to throw questions at the lawmaker and he received answers.

So, the birth of ‘Maid in Malacañang’ actually is amalgamation of all the question and answer of Daryll to Senator Imee, like, ‘Senator ano bang nangyari no’n? Hindi ba sumama ang loob n’yo? Hindi ba kayo nagalit? O tinraydor kayo ni ganito o anong reaksyon ng pamilya mo?’” the director-writer said.

He also said that the public just knew the “choreograph disciplined reaction of the first family Marcos.” However, behind the camera and in the public’s eyes, they can have different emotions.

Having Senator Imee telling their side of the story is very authentic, the director said. “Sabi nga ni Cristine may mga roll eyes-roll eyes, so, napaka-comic. Napaka-visual magkuwento ni Sen. Imee,” Darryl Yap said.

Cristine Reyes is portraying the role of Senator Imee Marcos. The actress admitted that she can really feel the pressure of having this project.
