The authorities arrested a BIR official during an entrapment operation for allegedly asking ‘Padulas’ from victims to reduce their tax.
The National Bureau of Investigation – Western Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-WEMRO) arrested an official from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for allegedly extorting money from her victims.
NBI personnel arrested the suspect identified as Revenue Officer 4 Flora Albao assigned at BIR Zamboanga City after receiving the marked money during an entrapment operation. She even tried to call someone for help but no one helped her.
The NBI officials recovered the red paper bag containing P500, 000 under the table of the BIR officer. According to the authorities, the suspect is giving a high tax assessment, which leaves the victims with no choice but to make an agreement with her.
One of the victims revealed that Albao charged him P3 million tax deficiency but promised to make it P2 million in exchange for some amount. The suspect also threatened to freeze the victim’s assets once it failed to pay.
“Binibigyan sila ng pagkakataon na i-settle ‘yung napakalaking tax deficiency daw, at kung hindi ay ipi-freeze nila ang mga asset nitong mga negosyante natin dito, Sobrang sakit dahil mismo sa loob ng BIR office doon ginagawa ang mga karumal-dumal na gawain nitong mga ito,” NBI-WEMRO Acting Regional Director Head Agent Moises Tamayo said.
Albao will face charges of robbery-extortion and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. The suspect has yet to give a statement regarding the matter.
