Will Pres. Duterte Endorse a Presidential Candidate for May 2022 Elections?

DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke anew on the possibility that he will endorse a presidential candidate.

Three days from now, the Filipinos are expected to vote for the local and national elections that include the election for the next president, vice-president, and senators of the country. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has already announced an “all systems go” regarding the upcoming poll.

On the national election, there are 10 candidates for president in the upcoming election while 9 bets are vying for the vice presidency. With regards to the senatorial election, there are 64 candidacies confirmed by Comelec but one candidate announced the withdrawal of his bid ahead of the elections.

Several religious groups, political parties, institutions, groups of people belonging to the same profession, celebrities, and private individuals have aired their support for certain bets. Most government officials are also vocal about their support for certain national election candidates.

As for Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, four days ahead of the May 2022 Elections, the 77-year-old Chief Executive reiterated that he is not endorsing any presidential candidate in the upcoming poll. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he made the statement during the miting de avance of Hugpong ng Pagbabago held at the San Pedro Square in Davao City.

In Visayan, Pres. Duterte stressed that he is neutral and he is not supporting any presidential bet in the upcoming election. His political party which was recently recognized by Comelec as the official party, PDP-Laban Cusi wing, previously expressed support for the presidential bid of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos, the running-mate of presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in the upcoming election.

Duterte-Carpio was adopted by PDP-Laban Cusi wing as its vice-presidential bet prior to the endorsement of Marcos Jr. She is running for vice president under Lakas-CMD while the former Senator is under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
