Mayor Sara Duterte Gives Last State of the City Address in Davao
SARA DUTERTE – The presidential daughter and vice-presidential candidate bid farewell to her post as the mayor of Davao City.
Before President Rodrigo Roa Duterte became president of the Republic of the Philippines, he served Davao City for more than two (2) decades. He had his years as mayor of the city. He was succeeded by his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Mayor Inday Sara is currently at the tip of her second term as Davao City Mayor. During the filing of candidacy period for the May 2022 Election, she initially filed for re-election as mayor in Davao. She stressed that she wants to finish three (3) mayoralty terms in their hometown.
However, after a few days, the presidential daughter withdrew her candidacy for mayor and joined the national party, Lakas-CMD. She substituted the vice-presidential candidate of the party.
Recently, Mayor Sara Duterte delivered her last State of the City Address in Davao City. She formally bid goodbye to her mayoralty post. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the presidential daughter and vice-presidential candidate said that she’s been called “for a bigger challenge”.
“This is a challenge that gives me the opportunity to spread my wings wider, to soar higher, and reach new heights — with the support of our fellow Filipinos — for our beloved country,” Mayor Inday Sara said.
During her speech, Mayor Sara recalled her first term as mayor of Davao. According to her, people say that it is hard “to break the glass ceiling” but in Davao City they have been breaking the ceiling all this time. She is the first female mayor of the city and also the youngest who has been elected to the position.
Under the leadership of Mayor Sara Duterte, the Davao City LGU has accomplished a lot and they bagged 118 awards and recognitions in the last six (6) years. She is confident that her successor can surpass it. Her youngest brother, Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte, is one of the four (4) candidates for mayor.
