SONNY MATULA’S PLATFORMS – Here are the accomplishments of senatorial bet Sonny Matula and his plans if he wins the 2022 Election.
In less than a week, the 2022 Elections are set to take place. Both local and national elections will be held and they include the election of a new set of senators. The senatorial race is composed of people from different fields – labor leaders, individuals from the medical field, former and incumbent government officials, etc.
One of the labor advocate who is vying for a seat in the Senate is Sonny Matula, a lawyer and an educator.
Personal Background:
Jose Sonny Gito Matula was born in 1965 to Carlos Matula Sr., a landless farmer, and Basilia Gito Matula, a dressmaker. He is a graduate of AB Political Science at Mindanao State University and Bachelor of Laws at Manuel L. Quezon University. He was a multi-study grant by the U.S. State Department under the International Visitors Program. He also has certifications in courses in American Constitutional Law.
Atty. Matula is married to Melba Cubal, a certified public accountant and currently a faculty member at the University of Santo Tomas. Their marriage is blessed with two (2) children.
Accomplishments:
Sonny Matula is a lawyer, a labor advocate, and an educator. He is the current national president of the federation group FFW and the chairman of Nagkaisa Labor Coalition. He is a labor lawyer who has stood for thousands of laborers including the workers who are part of Pambansang Kilusan ng Samahang Magsasaka and Lakas Magsasakang Pilipino. As an educator, he teaches in the College of Law at the University of Perpetual Help, University of Manila College of Law, and Manuel L. Quezon University School of Law.

- supports banning of contractualization scheme in the field of employment, freedom of association, collective bargaining rights of workers, adoption of national minimum wage
- supports the prohibition of salary discrimination and benefits based on work, race, religious beliefs, and other similar grounds

- supports “Ayudang Sapat at Trabahong Ligtas” policy, boosting of the healthcare system in PH
- supports the implementation of the legislated modernization of sustainable agriculture, speedy completion of agrarian reform, creation of green jobs and climate jobs for environmental protection
- supports boosting the monitoring bodies of the National Tripartite Industrial Peace Council
- supports the protection of labor zones
- supports enhancing the existing social security programs and providing enhanced unemployment insurance and family allowance
