Teenager Killed, Another Injured After Lightning Strike in Cebu
A 16-year-old teenager lost his life while his younger companion was injured after they were struck by lightning in Tuburan, Cebu.
According to the Tuburan Police Station, the victims were spending time along the shoreline in Barangay Daanlungsod when the tragic incident occurred. The older victim was a Grade 10 student who had gone to the area with his 14-year-old friend.
The two had been having a picnic by the coast before the weather suddenly turned dangerous.

Police said the boys were eating when lightning struck the area. The unexpected event shocked nearby residents and prompted an immediate response from those who witnessed the incident. Both teenagers were quickly rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Police are currently conducting an investigation to gather more information about the incident. Authorities are also using the opportunity to remind the public to be extra cautious during periods of unstable weather.
Residents have been advised to regularly monitor weather updates and avoid staying in open areas, especially near beaches and shorelines, when thunderstorms are possible. Weather experts have noted that Cebu has been experiencing isolated thunderstorms, which can develop quickly and bring lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds.
Local officials emphasized that even if the weather appears calm at first, conditions can change within minutes. They encouraged families and outdoor visitors to seek shelter immediately whenever thunderclouds begin to form.
