Comelec Decides on Last DQ Case Vs. Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos’ Presidential Bid
COMELEC – The Commission on Elections released its decision on the last disqualification case versus former Senator Bongbong Marcos.
The local and national elections are less than a month away now. There are 10 candidates vying for the presidency and one of them is former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. whose bid is undeniably controversial.
Marcos Jr. is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Several groups and individuals filed petitions against the presidential bid of the former Senator. The petitions filed before the Commission on Elections called for his disqualification from the presidential race.
Most of the petitions cited the tax cases of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos. Recently, Comelec released its decision on the last pending disqualification case against the presidential bid of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas-standard bearer.
Based on a report of ABS-CBN News, the Comelec First Division junked the last disqualification case against the presidential bid of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos. The decision of the poll body was confirmed by Commissioner George M. Garcia.
The petition junked by the poll body was filed by Margarita Salonga Salandanan and the members of the Pudno Nga Ilokano group against Marcos. It was last December 7, 2021 when the petition that cited the tax cases of the former Senator was filed. The petitioners believe that there is moral turpitude.
The Comelec First Division members had a unanimous decision in junking the disqualification case versus Marcos Jr. citing the “lack of merit” and the former Senator’s move saying it “does not reflect moral depravity”.
Currently, Marcos Jr. continues to lead the presidential race if based on the results of the survey conducted by Pulse Asia. However, his digits dropped in the latest survey conducted in March.
