ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema signed a partnership with the Kapuso network
A historical deal happened between the Kapamilya and the Kapuso networks as Star Cinema movies are now made available on GMA Network’s local channels.
Network rivalry in the Philippines is a big deal. Many stars have exclusive contracts in certain networks and they are not allowed to appear or do a project with other networks.
However, just recently, a historic event happened in the Philippine entertainment industry. Two of the biggest TV networks in the country signed a deal. Based on the article in GMA, on April 5, top executives of GMA Network and ABS-CBN gathered together virtually to mark the contract signing.
GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., EVP and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, GMA Films President and Programming Consultant to the Chairman Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, and First Vice President for Program Management Department Jose Mari R. Abacan graced the event.
For ABS-CBN, Chairman Mark Lopez, President and CEO Carlo Katigbak, COO for Broadcast Cory Vidanes, and CFO Rick Tan were present.
Mr. Duavit said that the Kapuso network is very pleased because of this significant partnership between the two networks that will surely usher “broader set of conversations, potential partnerships, and cooperation that will have the benefit not only mutually to GMA and ABS-CBN, perhaps more importantly, to the benefit of the public we both serve, the Filipino viewer.”
Mr. Katigbak expressed gratitude to GMA for giving a wider platform for the creations of Star Cinema. He also said that Kapuso fans will “find joy and inspiration in viewing our Star Cinema movies.” They are also looking forward to a new era of friendship and cooperation within the small industry.
Starting this April, movies produced by Star Cinema, the film outfit of ABS-CBN will be shown on GMA Network’s local channel.
