Isko Moreno was once again asked about the issue in Divisoria
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno insisted that no corruption has happened in the issue concerning the Divisoria Market.
Reportedly, the presidential candidate of Aksyon Demokratiko sold the market for P1,446,966,000. Based on the report from Manila Times, the money was intended to fund the city’s COVID-19 response.
Through the City Council Resolutions 171 and 180 in June 2020, Moreno was given the authority to sell through auction the estimated 3,700 square meters of property.
After the bidding, Festina Holdings Inc., which has an office address at 472 Padre Faura Center in Ermita Manila got the ownership. Included in the deal was that the company will pay all required taxes after sales, including the capital gains tax.
Manila City District 3 Councilor Ernesto ‘Jong’ Isip said that the city will earn a lot more if the market will be sold than the rent it has earned for more than 25 years.
When this issue surfaced, Mayor Isko Moreno was asked about this and he said, “Baka may nasaktan.” He was referring to his statement that the Marcoses settle the P203 billion estate law.
In a recent interview, based on the report from TV5 reporter Romel Lopez, Mayor Isko reiterated that there was no corruption in Divisoria Market Issue. The presidential aspirant also said that Manila City has appropriately manage its COVID-19 response.
Meanwhile, in a previous statement of Mayor Isko Moreno, he said that if he will not win the presidential race in the 2022 elections, this means “pahinga” for his political career.
“Tapos na ang buhay, move on. Para ka lang syota ‘yan, nagkahiwalay kayo, move forward. Pahinga na rin,” he said.
