Malacañang Reacts To Comelec’s “Oplan Baklas” of Oversized Campaign Materials

Malacañang Reveals Side on “Oplan Baklas” by Comelec

MALACAÑANG – The Palace reacted to the “Oplan Baklas” of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on oversized campaign materials.

The campaign period for the May 2022 Election has officially started last February 8, 2022. Proclamation rallies of the presidential candidates and their teams were held in different areas across the nation. Most of the presidential bets held it in their bailiwick.

The proclamation rallies gathered the supporters of the presidential bets and their family and friends. Many wore their bet’s official campaign color and brought with them posters and tarpaulins as they expressed their support.

Several households in the Philippines also helped campaign for their candidates in the upcoming election. Many institutions and organizations also endorse some candidates.

However, recently, an act by the poll authorities in line with their “Oplan Baklas” caught the attention of the public. In line with the said operation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the poll authorities reportedly removed some oversized campaign materials in private properties.

While some agree with the move of the poll authorities, some people are also not in favor of it citing that those materials were made from pockets of private individuals who want to express their support to their candidates and were placed in private properties.

Recently, Malacañang revealed its side on the said move. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Palace stressed respect for the independence of the poll body.

“We have to respect the independence of Comelec, especially so dahil election period ngayon,” Malacañang spokesperson Karlo Nograles said.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez previously denied that the poll authorities trespassed private properties to remove the oversized campaign materials of the supporters of Vice Pres. Leni Robredo. Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is also not in favor of the move saying it is “wrong and unfair” to the Vice President.
