Update on Comelec Decision on Petition Seeking to Cancel Raffy Tulfo’s Candidacy
COMELEC – The Commission on Elections revealed its decision on the petition against the senate bid of veteran broadcaster Raffy Tulfo.
The May 2022 Election which includes both national and local polls is drawing near and the campaign period has officially started. The presidential candidates have started visiting several areas to campaign together with their running-mates for vice president and their senatorial slates.
One of the senatorial candidates in the upcoming election is veteran broadcaster Raffy Tulfo. He stopped his program entitled Raffy Tulfo in Action which is aired on YouTube and filed his candidacy for senator in the Election 2022. He is one of the famous personalities in the Philippines with a lot of social media followers.
However, the senatorial candidacy of Raffy Tulfo was faced with a petition filed by a certain Julieta Pearson last October 25, 2021 before the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, she claims to be the “legal wife” of Tulfo saying they married in 1982.
Pearson stated in her petition that Tulfo committed material misrepresentation by listing Jocelyn Tulfo as his wife. She also filed charges against the veteran broadcaster before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office.
Recently, Comelec revealed its decision on the petition seeking to cancel the candidacy of Raffy Tulfo for senator in the May 2022 Election. According to the report, the poll body’s acting chairperson, Socorro Inting, said that the petition was junked. She expressed that there was no misinterpretation in the COC of the veteran broadcaster.
Tulfo is leading the senatorial race in the upcoming May 2022 Election. In the latest Pulse Asia Survey, he is followed by former Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in the list of preferred senators by the respondents.
