Kris Aquino Makes Rare Appearance at Malacañang for Special Birthday Lunch with Marcos Couple
KRIS AQUINO – Queen of All Media Kris Aquino surprised many after visiting Malacañang Palace for a belated birthday lunch with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
Television host and actress Kris Aquino made a rare public appearance after visiting Malacañang Palace on Friday for a belated birthday lunch hosted by Liza Araneta-Marcos.
Kris recently marked her 55th birthday on February 14, Valentine’s Day. The former talk show host continues to deal with multiple autoimmune diseases, which have kept her away from the public eye for quite some time. Because of her health condition, Kris rarely attends public gatherings, making the recent lunch meeting particularly notable.
The small gathering at the Palace was reportedly arranged by fashion designer Michael Leyva, who is known to be a close friend of both Kris and the First Lady. Leyva also previously brought the two women together during his birthday celebration in October last year, which was one of the few occasions when Kris stepped out despite being in isolation for health reasons.
During lunch, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. briefly joined the gathering to personally greet Kris. The president stopped by to exchange pleasantries and pose for a photo with Kris and the First Lady before continuing with his schedule.
The meeting also carried historical significance, as both Kris and President Marcos Jr. come from families that once held the country’s highest office. Kris is the youngest daughter of Corazon Aquino, who became president following the EDSA People Power Revolution that led to the removal of Marcos Jr.’s father from power.
Kris herself has personal memories tied to Malacañang. She once stayed there with her sons, Josh and Bimby, during the presidency of her brother Benigno Aquino III. Her last visit to Bahay Pangulo before this recent lunch reportedly took place in 2016.
Interestingly, the connection between Kris and the First Lady also extends beyond friendship. According to President Marcos Jr., the two women share family ties through relatives from the Araneta, Sumulong, and Cojuangco clans. The First Lady’s aunt, Demetria Sumulong, married Kris’s maternal grandfather, Don Jose “Pepe” Cojuangco. Meanwhile, another relative from the Araneta side, Rosario Cacho, was married to Kris’s uncle, Pedro Cojuangco.
Despite their families’ complicated political history, the lunch gathering highlighted a moment of cordiality and personal connection among prominent figures in Philippine politics and society.
