Malacañang Announces COVID Alert Level in Metro Manila from February 16-28

Malacañang Speaks on Metro Manila COVID Alert Status

MALACAÑANG – The Palace announced the COVID alert level in Metro Manila starting February 16 to February 28.

The COVID-19 pandemic is yet to be over. The Philippines and several countries across the globe are still in a battle against the virus that shook the healthcare systems of several nations and cost millions of lives.

The pandemic urged the people to adjust to a new normal setting. In the Philippines, students are under blended learning for more than two (2) years now. The delivery of the lessons in most schools is through online classes or learning modules and not the usual in-person teaching.

Meanwhile, the country is slowly trying to get back to the normal setting. The face-to-face classes in Metro Manila recently expanded. The cases are also going on a downtrend behavior.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang spokesperson Karlo Nograles announced that Metro Manila will remain under Alert Level 2 from February 16-28. According to infectious disease specialist Dr. Rontgene Solante, the implementation of the Alert Level 2 for another two (2) weeks is a good preparation in case the COVID alert status would be downgraded to Alert Level 1 in March.

Furthermore, Dr. Solante stressed that it is also an opportunity to vaccinate more Filipinos. The doctor expressed that there might be “less of the apprehensions of the possibility of spikes” because more people have received their jabs.

Currently, several areas in the country including Iloilo City, Iloilo province, Zamboanga City, Guimaras, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, and South Cotabato are under Alert Level 3.
