2 Men Arrested After Escaping Batangas Checkpoint, Found Illegal Drugs

Police authorities arrested two (2) men when they were caught possessing illegal drugs after they allegedly tried to escape the checkpoint in Batangas.

In Tuy, Batangas province, two men were detained for allegedly transporting suspected shabu. Mark John Mauricio, 37, and Jeffrey Espaa, 36, were identified as the suspects, based on the police report.

According to Batangas Police, they were inspecting a roadblock in the region for the election gun prohibition, but the suspects swiftly fled. Without displaying a license, police pursued and trapped the two motorcyclists.

Inside the suspects’ pocket and sling pouch, two sachets of shabu were discovered. As a consequence, Mauricio and Espaa have been arrested and charged with breaching the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, driving without a license, and breaking election laws.

Meanwhile, in Cebu, police officers from the Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) seized shabu worth P2.1 million. According to the PDEG, narcotics suspects in Cebu City’s Barangay Kalunasan surrendered shabu worth P1.42 million.

Police in Talisay City claimed shabu worth P680,000 was confiscated from another drug suspect detained in Barangay Lagtang during a sting. The individuals are charged under Republic Act 9165, often known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Following the arrests of a lady and two men in separate buy-bust operations with over P3.2 million worth of shabu,’ follow-up operations are still underway. Two separate buy-bust operations were conducted by members of the Regional Police Narcotics Enforcement Unit in Central Visayas (RPDEU-7) that resulted in the arrest of three drug suspects.
