Mayor of Ferrol is Among 200 Sabungeros Arrested in Romblon Illegal Cockfight
Police authorities arrested 200 sabungeros including the Mayor of Ferrol in Romblon due to an illegal cockfight event.
When officials searched a cockpit in barangay Tubigon, they detained Ferrol Mayor Romblon. According to the report, the arrested incumbent Mayor was recognized as Mayor Jovencio Mayor Jr.

200 persons were apprehended at Tubigon Square Garden, which is where the cockpit is located. The CIDG-Romblon, Ferrol municipal police station, and Romblon police provincial mobile force company stormed the cockpit simultaneously after receiving a tip that the cockfighting activity had proceeded, according to Police Col. Raynaldo Rosero, Romblon police provincial director.
Because Romblon is currently on alert level 3, cockfighting is still prohibited. According to Rosero, the Ferrol police chief sent multiple warnings to the mayor, but he ignored them.
The mayor of Ferrol and the others detained are charged with violating IATF Resolution 159-a Series of 2022 and the Cockfighting Law. The apprehended defendants were found with unspecified sums of cash, gambling paraphernalia, and dead and alive chickens, police said.
Meanwhile, police have identified a person of interest who they suspect may have knowledge of the disappearance of five Bulacan citizens last month after they allegedly attended an “e-sabong” gathering in Batangas province. The latest development in the ongoing inquiry was provided by Calumpit police, however, they did not elaborate while the search for the missing cockfighters continues.
