Sue Ramirez Shares Emotional Tribute Following Her Mother’s Death
SUE RAMIREZ – A heartbreaking loss has left actress Sue Ramirez grieving as her mother, respected labor leader Chit Dodd, passed away at 69.
Actress Sue Ramirez is mourning the loss of her mother, labor leader Concepcion “Chit” Garina Dodd, who died at the age of 69, months after undergoing open-heart surgery.
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), where Dodd served as vice president, confirmed her passing in a social media post on the evening of August 17. The organization honored her decades of service to Filipino workers and recognized her contributions to the labor movement.
“Sa kanyang mahabang paglilingkod sa kilusang paggawa, iniwan niya ang isang mahalagang ambag sa pagsusulong ng kapakanan at karapatan ng mga manggagawa,” said TUCP. “Higit sa kanyang paglilingkod sa labor movement, siya rin ay isang mapagmahal na ina na naging haligi at inspirasyon ng kanyang pamilya.”
TUCP also offered its sympathies to Dodd’s relatives, friends, and colleagues in the labor sector who knew her as the National President of the Confederation of Labor and Allied Social Services.
“Maraming salamat, Sis. Chit, sa iyong serbisyo at walang sawang paglilingkod. Mananatili ang iyong alaala at pamana sa kilusang paggawa. May your soul rest in eternal peace,” the group ended.
Shortly after the announcement, Sue posted a heartfelt tribute to her mother on Instagram. She shared a photo of herself beside Dodd as they sat together, with her mother holding a bouquet.
“Mahal na mahal na mahal kita,” Sue wrote, adding a white heart emoji. In another Instagram story, she posted a video of a rainy nighttime drive along EDSA and wrote, “Kasabay kong umiiyak ang langit.”
Sue’s former boyfriend, Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javi Benitez, also remembered Dodd through a Facebook tribute. He shared a photo of the labor leader holding flowers and recalled her warmth, determination, and strong principles.
“This is how I will remember Mommy Chit… flowers in her arms, that radiant smile, beautiful and completely herself,” said Benitez. “Make no mistake, she was not soft. She had strong opinions and stronger principles, and she fought for the Filipino worker like it was personal. So when she smiled at you like this, you knew you mattered.”
Earlier this year, Sue had publicly asked for blood donors and prayers as her mother prepared for open-heart surgery. She previously described the experience as deeply painful, especially because her father had gone through a similar condition before his death.
Sue’s father, James Dodd, was a retired senior officer of the United States’ State Department. He died in 2013, leaving behind his wife, Sue, and their four older children.
Dodd’s passing leaves behind a legacy of labor advocacy and a family who remembers her as a loving mother and a source of strength.
