South Korea To Extend Help to Odette-Hit PH

SOUTH KOREA – The Korean government pledged to send $2 million to the Philippines as relief assistance for Typhoon Odette victims.

Several parts of the Philippines were left devastated by Typhoon Odette. The said typhoon which brought heavy rains and strong winds left several parts of the country submerged in floodwater following its onslaught. Massive infrastructure damages were recorded in several areas.

Currently, many Filipinos are staying in evacuation centers and temporary shelters. They lost their homes to the wrath of Odette. Some houses were destroyed by the flood and the strong winds while others got hit by the falling trees. Communication and power lines were out in most areas during the calamity.

Odette, the strongest typhoon to have hit PH this year 2021, left several areas in the country under the State of Calamity. Among these are the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

Several foreign governments pledged to help the Philippines recover from the impacts of Typhoon Odette. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, South Korea vowed to send $2 million relief aid for the victims of the calamity.

According to the report, aside from the $2 million relief assistance, more than 1,500 sacks of rice and 740 units of hygiene kits were turned over by South Korea to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as confirmed by S. Korea ambassador to the Philippines Kim Inchul.

According to the South Korean Ambassador, the relief assistance is in the pursuit to support the urgent needs of the typhoon victims. He stressed that their country will remain in solidarity with the Philippines in the aftermath of the calamity.

Aside from South Korea, Japan, the United Nations (UN), and several other foreign countries and entities also pledged to help PH in this time of great calamity that left many areas in the country devastated.
