Class Suspensions Declared In These Areas For Thursday (December 16)
WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declared class suspensions due to the effects of Typhoon Odette.
Over the past few days, Typhoon Odette continues to affect the country’s weather condition. It brings heavy rains and strong winds over numerous provinces after entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Odette has been last spotted 330 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte. It has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 185 kph moving 25 kph at a west northwest direction.
PAGASA even raised tropical cyclone wind signal in various provinces. The weather agency also warned the public for possible flash floods and landslides during heavy to intense rains.
On Thursday (December 16, 2021), several local government units announced the cancellation of classes over some parts of the country due to the inclement weather condition brought by the typhoon.
Here is the list of areas covered by the suspension classes:
- Palo, Leyte – all levels, public and private
- Mandaue City, Cebu – all levels, public and private
- Cebu City, Cebu
- Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu
- Talisay City, Cebu
- Iloilo City (all levels)
- Bacolod City (face-to-face classes at Alangilan National High School)
- Bohol (all levels)
- Eastern Samar (all levels)
- Agusan del Sur
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes advised the residents to prepare properties, stock foods and other basic necessities. The citizens are also encourage to monitor updates regarding the typhoon.
The suspension of classes has been announced due to possible power interruption and signal outage amid the inclement weather. The government work has been suspended to ensure the safety of the employees.
