Davao de Oro Farmer Dies After Bitten by King Cobra

A Davao de Oro farmer has passed away after he was bitten by a ‘banakon’ or known as King Cobra in Barangay Olaycon.

Over the previous decades, numerous sightings of snakes and other wild creatures have been recorded throughout the Philippines. Those reptiles contain venom that could cause harm to the victims.

Numerous people have already died after suffering snake bite. The Department of Natural Resources warned the public to avoid having an encounter with snakes and contact the authorities for proper measure.

On Monday (December 13, 2021), a farmer at Barangay Olaycon in the town ofMonkayo, Davao de Oro has passed away after he was bitten by a King Cobra. The incident happened when the victim tried to help catching the reptile.

Monkayo Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office identified the victim as Rodrigo Ugay Dijos. Barangay Kagawad Barry Gina Labrigas said that Dijos is heading home when found a group of men trying to catch a ‘banakon’.

Dijos get off from his motorcycle who is already drunk and tried to help the group to catch the serpent. He was able to catch and kill the Cobra but suffered snake bite on his back and face during the chase.

The farmer was still able to strike a pose on the camera while holding the lifeless cobra. He was rushed to a witch doctor but he already lost his consciousness, according to Labrigas. The latter eventually passed away.
