Leila De Lima Pleas to Shoot Political Ad Inside Prison for Her 2022 Elections Campaign
LEILA DE LIMA – The convicted Senator pleas authorities to allow her to film her political ad for the 2022 elections inside prison.
In preparation for her re-election to the Senate in 2022, the Senator’s campaign asked the authorities if she might film a campaign commercial inside her cell. According to De Lima’s team, obtaining the campaign materials that De Lima will utilize will take three days.

According to the senator’s camp, “this request is very required to give full significance to the electoral process, as these images and films will be used for the campaign of accused De Lima.”
The Department of Justice (DOJ) halted it, claiming that De Lima could not be treated differently than other detainees. The Department of Justice also stated that the Supreme Court had stated that De Lima’s camp’s demands were not feasible.
“For this reason alone, accused De Lima cannot and must not be treated differently from any other accused. She may occupy an exalted position in society, but this does not entitle her to special treatment,” according to the DOJ comment that they submitted to Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 256.
“The Supreme Court made it clear that all prisoners cannot be allowed to practice their profession, their civil and political rights are restricted and regulated. Thus, to allow accused De Lima to enjoy the privileges accorded to upright candidates would be the height of unfairness and partiality,” according to the motion.
De Lima’s camp has yet to reply to the DOJ’s decision to deny their request. He has been detained at the PNP Custodial Center for four years as a result of the multi-layered allegations leveled against him.
