Company Offers Swiss Residents “Painless Assisted Death” Using Sarco
“PAINLESS DEATH” – An Australian-based company offers residents from Switzerland a “painless assisted death”.
Recently, “Exit International”, a non-profit organization, created a pod called the “Sarco Machine”. The pod is a 3D-printed device that offers people an alternative over liquid sodium pentobarbital. According to the company, their pods would be available for residents of Switzerland soon.
Philip Nitschke, the founder of Exit International, explained that the pods are filled with nitrogen. Afterward, it slowly reduces oxygen levels to 1%. According to Nitschke, it takes less than 30 seconds for the person to feel disoriented and unconscious.
Based on an article from USA Today, Nitschke said:
The person will get into the capsule and lie down. It’s very comfortable. They will be asked a number of questions and when they have answered, they may press the button inside the capsule activating the mechanism in their own time
The pod already cleared legal reviews and is primed to begin operations in 2022. However, most people are now asking if assisted suicide is legal.
In some parts of the U.S., this is very much allowed. As per the article, this includes California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington state. Meanwhile, other countries such as Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and Canada have it allowed under extremely strict requirements.
The whole thing takes about 30 seconds. Death takes place through hypoxia and hypocapnia, oxygen and carbon dioxide deprivation, respectively. There is no panic, no choking feeling
