Does Rabiya Mateo also believe in the curse of the crown and the title?
RABIYA MATEO – Former Miss Universe Philippines titleholder Rabiya Mateo insists crown and title have no curse despite the familiar pattern.
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 is Rabiya Mateo and just this year, she passed the crown to Beatrice Luigi Gomez, the one who will represent the country in the 70th edition of the international pageant. And just like the previous winners of the pageant, both Mateo and Gomez have ended their relationship after winning.

The same fate happened to beauty queens like Miriam Quiambao and Martin Bernardo, Janin Tugonon and Jaypee Santos, and Catriona Gray and Clint Bondad. These queens met the same fate when it comes to their love lives. And now, speaking about the “sumpa” or curse, Mateo insisted that it’s not true. According to her statement, the people just made a big deal out of the similar and normal situations because they share the same kind of fame as public figures.
“To be honest po, it’s not like one shoe that fits everybody. I’m sure somehow there are different reasons that’s why this is happening,” she said. She believes it’s not a curse because what happened to each of them actually happened because it’s a mutual decision, not a curse or anything. She added, “They put stories to what is happening, kahit minsan naman po… it’s actually a mutual decision. So, I guess, it’s not a curse.”
Also, having been through the same bashing when her relationship ended after Miss Universe stint and after saying she can make a man stay, she appealed for support for Beatrice. The current titleholder also just ended her relationship with her longtime girlfriend. Bea is the first queen open about her same-gender relationship and with tattoos. Her bravery is one of the traits she showed the reason why she also stood out among other candidates during the local pageant.
