Authorities Sanctioned Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte For Not Wearing Helmet During Bike Event
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte received a violation ticket for not wearing a helmet during a bike event in the town.
The Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) issued a violation ticket to Mayor Joy Belmonte for violating the traffic rules and regulations. She has been fined P300 for her first offense.
However, the city mayor explained that she gave her helmet to a fellow cyclist participating the Cycle to End Violence Against Women bike event. The participant has no protective gear during the event.
The event has been made to commemorate the 18-day campaign to end violence against women and #RespetoNaman Movement’s third anniversary. The bikers used the bike lanes of QC Hall, Elliptical Road, up to Agham Road.
Belmonte has praised the agency for strictly implementing the City Ordinance 2942-2021 properly despite being penalized for her violation. She also commended them for apprehending a high-profile personality like her because no one is above the law.
“I commend our DPOS for strictly implementing our ordinance kasi wala silang sini-sino kapag nagpapatupad ng batas,” Belmonte said.
“Through this event, we hope to spread awareness among the general public about the importance of protecting the rights of women and girls by addressing all forms of gender-based violence,” Belmonte said.
