North Cotabato Mayor Orders Arrest Against a Former Soldier for Extortion Attempt
Police authorities arrested a former soldier after Pikit, North Cotabato Mayor allegedly reported him over his extortion attempt.
An entrapment operation has been begun by the Pikit Police Department against a former soldier who was reportedly attempting to extort money from Pikit Mayor Sumulong Sultan. Ryan Calayan Maborrang, 33, of Barangay Gen. Luna, Carmen, North Cotabato, has long been dismissed from military service, according to Maj. Maxim Peralta, police office chief.

Throughout the investigation, the suspect frequently contacts and texts the mayor, introducing himself as Col. Joel Limson of the Soccsksargen Police Department. The mayor who felt threatened against the suspect quickly sought Peralta’s assistance in apprehending the former military.
After the report, the authorities told the Mayor that they will arrest the suspect with an entrapment operation. Maborrang agreed to meet with the mayor behind the local town hall at Fort Pikit to collect the P50,000 he had sought from Sultan.
After claiming the bag carrying extortion money worth 50 pieces of boodle money, the authorities immediately arrested him. Maborrang continued to resist the arrest and denied the allegations, but he was still apprehended by the cops.
Based on the report, the suspect allegedly demanded P50,000 in exchange for police operations against Sultan’s political foes. While the extortion case against him is being constructed, the suspect has been imprisoned in the Pikit police lock-up cell.
