PH Gov’t Allows Videoke Bars to Operate at 50% Capacity in Metro Manila

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque Says Videoke Bars Now Allowed to Operate at 50% Capacity in Metro Manila

The Philippine government has finally allowed the videoke bars to operate at 50 percent capacity in Metro Manila.

On Friday (November 5, 2021), Malacañang Palace announced that videoke bars can operate at 50% capacity in Metro Manila but the government sets guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The government advised both bar employees and customers to wear mask inside the establishment. Videoke goers are also advised to wear masks while singing to avoid COVID-19 transmission.

“For now, entertainment like karaoke is allowed at 50 percent capacity, but only for vaccinated customers and employees, If possible, sing with your face mask on. Because even if we want to revive our industries, we do not want these to become super spreader events,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Roque made the announced after the government placed Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 from November 5 to 21, 2021 due to the decreasing cases of the respiratory disease.

The presidential spokesman said that the government could change alert levels at any time in the middle of the implementation period of alert level 2 in the National Capital Region.

Meanwhile MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said that Metro Manila local chief executives should set a meeting to discuss the revision of mandatory wearing of face shields.

However, Abalos prefer to wear face shields in public places, which gives the public an extra level of protection. He is in favor of making it voluntary instead of mandatory.

“Some find it inconvenient to wear face shields when it is hot or raining. But what is another inconvenience for us if it can protect us from the virus,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire added.
