Mayor Sara Duterte Responds To Calls for Her To Run for President in 2022

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Asked to Reconsider Decision on Bid for President

MAYOR SARA DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor responded to calls for her to run for president instead of a re-election in her city in the 2022 Election.

The period set for the filing of candidacy to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is down to its last two (2) days. The poll body set the deadline on October 8, 2.021 and many Filipinos are eager to know who will join the presidential and the vice presidential races.

Previously, results of the surveys for possible presidential candidates had Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as the front runner. Several groups and his political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, called for the presidential daughter to run for president in the next election.

Mayor Duterte was vocal that 2022 may not be the year for her to run for the highest position in the government but she took the time given to her by her party to reconsider her decision.

However, following President Rodrigo Roa Duterte accepting PDP-Laban Cusi wing’s nomination for vice president, the Davao City Mayor announced that she is not taking the presidential race. According to her, she and the President have agreed that only one of them will run for a national post.

Mayor Sara Duterte filed her candidacy for re-election as mayor of Davao City. However, following Pres. Duterte’s withdrawal from the vice presidential race, there are calls for the presidential daughter to reconsider her decision not to run for president in the 2022 Election.

Recently, on her Facebook account, Mayor Sara Duterte responded to the calls for her to run for president in 2022. According to the presidential daughter, it is also painful for her not to be able to give what her supporters want. However, she expressed that she still wants to finish her last term as Davao City Mayor before she would serve in other positions.

“Madami sa inyo ang nasasaktan, sumama ang loob at nawalan ng pag-asa pero puwede pa rin tayo magtulungan para sa ating bayan, di kailangan ng posisyon, di kailangan na tayo ang Pangulo upang makatulong,” the Davao City Mayor said.
