Isko Moreno to enter the national political arena
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is set to announce formally his presidential candidacy on Wednesday, September 22.
Mayor Francisco Domagoso is one of the popular political personalities who is being pitched for the highest position in the Philippine government. Since 2020, his name has been catching attention when it comes to topics about the national election.
In previous interviews, the Manila Mayor has not been answering directly the questions about his possible political plan next year. However, based on the article in Inquirer, Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) chief Julius Leonen confirmed in a message that Mayor Isko Moreno is running for President in the 2022 elections.
The MPIO also confirmed that the running mate of the Mayor will be online personality and physician Dr. Willie Ong.
Reportedly, Moreno has scored high in presidential surveys. In a report from Pulse Asia that was released on July 13, the survey showed that the Manila Mayor was on the number 2 spot for the position of President. Mayor Sara Duterte, whose camp recently announced that she will run for Mayor again, ranked number 1 in the same survey.

Meanwhile, prior to the official announcement of Mayor Isko Moreno regarding his presidential candidacy, his campaign ad was released. Atty. Tony La Viña, former dean of the Manila-based Ateneo School of Government, based on the report from ABS-CBN, said that this political ad of the Manila Mayor is “brilliant”. He said that it encompasses all the vital elements in presenting a political personality. “It’s an attack ad, a defense ad, and a positive ad, di ba? Makes you feel good. Brilliant,” La Viña said.
Previously, Senator Manny Pacquiao has also announced his presidential candidacy. This announcement came after Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, leading the other faction of PDP-Laban, named Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as its standard-bearer and President Rodrigo Duterte as his running mate.
