Juan Ponce Enrile Pushes “Persona non Grata” Against ICC Probers

Juan Ponce Enrile to Declare ICC Probers “Persona non Grata” in the Philippines

Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile wanted to declare personnel of International Criminal Court (ICC) as “persona non grata” in the Philipines

Enrile believes that ICC investigators should not be permitted to enter the nation to undertake a formal investigation into the government’s anti-drug campaign. According to him, immigration should bar them from entering since they are persona non grata.

“Pag punta dito, dapat wag papasukin sa bansa. Prevent him. The Immigration must not allow him to come in. He is a persona non grata,” said Enrile.

Enrile also urged Filipinos to protect President Rodrigo Roa Duterte against detractors who back the International Criminal Court’s inquiry into the administration’s drug campaign. He added that impeachment might be used to hold the country’s top elected person responsible and that the ICC had no need to screen.

Instead, Filipinos should band together to defend President Duterte as a “statehood icon.” He claimed that only Filipinos have the ability to remove the president, but that they are subjugated by outsiders.

“Tayong mga Pilipino puwede natin patikwasin ang Presidente natin, pero pag aapihin ng taga labas, ang Presidente ng Pilipinas, simbolo ng ating estado …we must all bond together to support him and throw out any foreigner who cast any doubt on the authority and nobility on our President,” he said.

The ICC, according to Enrile, appears to be exploiting President Duterte’s detractors to further their “political agenda.” Those who favor the ICC probe, according to Enrile, are “most certainly communists.” In the current status of the country, he believes a communist administration is “impractical.”

“Yang mga sumusuporta diyan sa mga ‘yan mga kaliwa na lumalaban sa uri ng gobyerno natin. E ang mga followers ni Karl Marx yang mga ‘yan, ni Lenin. Kung gusto nila maging komunista, di pumunta sila sa Russia, pumunta sila sa North Korea,” he said.
