According to Police Major Jose Angelo Acupinpin, the chief of the Pardo Police Station, relatives of the victim said the event occurred on Wednesday and reported it to the barangay tanods (village watchmen), who later arrested the athlete. Pagara did not resist arrest, according to Acupinpin, although he denies the claims leveled against him.

“Last night in his statement and in his narration of events, he denied [the allegations]…He, however, did not resist arrest,” Acupinpin told reporters in a teleconference on Thursday, September 2.

Meanwhile, police have said that they would file rape charges against Pagara, who is currently in their custody. This is the parents’ request and complaint, according to Acupinpin.

The victim’s medical and physical examination results, as well as her and her guardian’s statements, should be filed. Pagara is a professional boxer who competes in the super bantamweight division.

When he was a teenager, he began his career by competing in Palarong Pambansa tournaments. Pagara’s first professional boxing battle took place while he was only 17 years old.

Later in his career, he would fight for the Philippines in a number of international bouts. He won 33 of the 34 matches he played. In 2016, he was defeated by Mexican boxer Cesar Juarez for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Inter-Continental super bantamweight title.
