President Duterte Dismisses NEA Chief Masongsong Over Alleged Corruption
MANILA, Philippines – President Duterte has dismissed NEA Chief Edgardo Masongsong from public service over alleged corruption.
On Saturday (August 21, 2021), President Rodrigo Duterte announced the termination of National Electrification Administration (NEA) administrator Edgardo Masongsong. The Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) made the recommendation.
The Philippine leader said that PACC conducted the investigation over Masongsong’s alleged corruption. Duterte explained that his action proves that the current administration is trying to end the corruption in the country.
“We’ve been talking about corruption. Alam mo may bago akong, the name is Edgardo Masongsong. He’s the administrator of the National Electrification Administration. I dismissed him from public service,” Duterte said.
Previously, PACC has already filed a case against NEA chief for allegedly allowing electric cooperatives to contribute funds for the campaign of a party list in 2019.
Mr. Duterte claimed that his administration may not be really totally clean but he is doing his best to end corruption from time to time. He also said that the government will do the best to cope with the situation although a lot of people remains skeptic about their advocacy.
“Endemic ang corruption but from time to time, eto. I’m given the opportunity to show to the people again, we are not bragging about it but we are trying our best to cope u with the situation regarding graft and corruption in our government,” Duterte added.
Meanwhile, President Duterte also urged the critics to give him reasons to fire Health Secretary Francisco Duque III after the bashers expressed their desire to dismiss the DOH chief over alleged corruption issues.
