Statement of Pres. Duterte on Health Workers’ Call Over Benefits
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave a message for the healthcare workers amid the issues about their benefits and incentives.
The COVID-19 pandemic is greatly affecting healthcare systems across the globe for over a year now. Unfortunately, many doctors, nurses, and other health professionals fell victim to the virus which they contracted in the line of duty.
In the Philippines, there were even instances in the past when restrictions over health workers going abroad were implemented. It was part of the preparation for the possibilities that the pandemic may bring the country.
For the safety of their families, many healthcare workers prefer to keep a distance from their loved ones as exposure to coronavirus patients is quite uncommon among them. Sadly, amid the risks they are taking, there are claims that they have yet to receive the benefits for them.
In fact, there are groups of healthcare workers saying they might consider mass resignation over the benefits they have yet to receive until now. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines (PHAPi) estimated that 40% of the nurses working in private hospitals left their job in 2020.
