Pokwang Recalls Time When Her 5-Year-Old Son Died

Pokwang shared this painful past

Kapuso comedienne Pokwang recalled the time when her 5-year-old son named Shin died amid other difficulties she was facing.

Pokie or Marietta Subong in real life is one of the popular comediennes nowadays. From being a stand-up comedienne in bars, she was able to penetrate that mainstream media. Pokie has already done several TV shows and movies that boosted her career. Through her stint on TV5, she also had the chance to do hosting in Chika, Besh!

Now that she is a Kapuso, she became part of the popular sitcom Pepito Manaloto for its prequel. Sharing her life and career in the Kapuso Profile, Pokwang shared the painful past that she overcame.

She said that in her late teens she had to work and became the breadwinner of their family as her father Antonio lost his job. This pushed Pokie to fly to Japan and work there. However, an unexpected thing happened to her – she got pregnant. She gave birth to her first child, Shin.

Pokie had to transfer to Abu Dhabi when Japan implemented stricter restrictions on Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). Leaving her son to Japan while she was in Abu Dhabi was so painful for her as a first-time mom.

Her struggles were even magnified when her son died due to a brain tumor. Shin was just 5 years old. What broke her heart, even more, was when her employer did not allow her to go to Japan for her son.

Pokwang said.

For the Kapuso comedienne, her son’s short life was meaningful. She proudly shared that Shin was a smart kid.
