Here’s what Hidilyn Diaz said about the statement of the President
First-ever Filipino Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz has this reaction when she was asked about the “let bygone be bygone” statement of President Rodrigo Duterte.
To recall, Hidilyn’s name was included in the matrix allegedly for the plot intended to overthrow that Chief Executive. Following the victory of the Pinay weightlifter in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, several government officials congratulated her and showed how proud they are for giving this honor to the country.
One of them was Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo who was the one who presented the so-called matrix to the public. When asked if he should apologize to Hidilyn for involving her name, the Secretary refused to do so and said that the matrix was just misinterpreted. He stressed that he is just sorry that the issue hurt Hidilyn.
On Wednesday, July 28, the Pinay weightlifter talked to the President during a virtual courtesy call. Duterte promised to give to give her Php3 million and a fully-furnished house in Zamboanga.
The Chief Executive also thanked the athlete for all her sacrifices and just “let bygones be bygones”. “You already have the gold. Gold is gold. And it would be good for you to just let bygones be bygones and dwell solely on your victory, together with your family and of course with the nation,” President Duterte said.
After this, based on the Twitter post of News5, Hidilyn Diaz has this reaction to what the President told her about the past issue.
“For me kasi after kong makuha ito (gold medal), sabi ko, I have to forgive everyone kung sino man ‘yung nag-offend sa akin, may nagsabing masama. Tapos inisip ko lang ‘yung time na ‘yun na ginamit ‘yun ni God para i-challenge ako [at] i-challenge ‘yung strength ko,” the Olympic gold medalist said.
