HIDILYN DIAZ – A throwback video of Filipina athlete Hidilyn Diaz training using only makeshift equipment went viral on social media.
On Monday, July 26, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won the first Olympic gold medal for the Philippines. The athlete ended the country’s 97-year Olympic drought.
The 30-year-old weightlifter will be rewarded for her historic win. Hidilyn is set to rake a total of P40.5 million and has also been offered two homes.
After Hidilyn Diaz’s historic achievement, social media sites exploded with congratulatory messages. People recognize her hard work, determination, and sacrifice to become Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist.
Celebrities like Anne Curtis, Jodi Sta. Maria, Charo Santos, Iza Calzado, and Lea Salonga were quick to post their tributes online. In a previous article, celebrity wife Jinkee Pacquiao took to her IG account to show how proud she was of the Pinay. However, she accidentally shared the wrong PH flag emoji.
Many netizens called out the attention of the former politician for sharing the flag emoji of another country. Jinkee reiterated her congratulatory post in IG hours later and said sorry for the gaffe.

Just recently, Hidilyn Diaz’s throwback video training using only makeshift equipment went viral on social media. The video was taken back in December 2020.
The clip shows the Pinay Olympian using a bamboo stick, resistance bands, and 2 heavy gym bags as her makeshift barbell to train for the prestigious international game. Her dedication really is an inspiration to many.
