Here’s what Salvador Panelo said about Hidilyn Diaz in a recent interview
Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo reacted to the call of several personalities urging him to apologize to Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
In 2019, the name of the Pinay weightlifter appeared on the matrix that the Malacanang released allegedly intended to overthrow President Rodrigo Duterte.
Because of that past issue, many people criticized the former Presidential Spokesperson when he congratulated Hidilyn after her historic Olympic win as he was the one who presented the matrix to the public with the weightlifter’s name.
There are those who urged Salvador Panelo and the Malacanang to apologize to the athlete who recently brought pride to the Philippines.
In a recent interview on ABS-CBN News Channel, the Secretary insisted that Hidilyn’s name was just included in the matrix because she was being followed by the person who was involved. For him, it was just misinterpreted. When Panelo was asked if it is hard to apologize, he answered, “madali ang mag-apologize kung mali ang ginawa mo. I just presented the matrix.”
He also stressed that he just did what the President told him to do and that was to present the matrix to the public. The Secretary also said that the one who read that assumed automatically that Hidilyn was part of it. On the other hand, an apology came from Salvador Panelo for Hidilyn Diaz’s feelings when her name was included in the matrix.
“I’m sorry, I’m sad to know na nasaktan si Hidilyn. I’m sorry for that, kawawa naman pero hindi naman yun ang intension,” he said. When asked what could be the lesson for this, the Secretary said, “The message is before you feel pain about it, tingnan mo muna kung tama yung sapantaha mo.”
