DOLE Issues Holiday Pay Rules for July 20 (Tuesday) In Observance of Eid’l Adha
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has issued the holiday pay rules for July 20 (Tuesday) in observance of Eid’l Adha.
The labor department released Labor Advisory No. 11 Series of 2021 declaring the holiday pay rules for the Muslim holiday or the culmination of the month-long fasting of Muslims for Ramadan.
The Labor Advisory states that the employees who will not report to work during the holiday shall receive 100 percent of his/her salary. Workers who will report to work are entitled to get 200 percent of its wage for the first eight hours of work.
Employees shall also receive an additional 30 percent of its hourly rate during the holiday for overtime work. If the holiday falls on worker’s rest day, he/she shall receive an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate.
“For work done during a regular holiday that also falls on his/her rest day, he/she shall be paid an additional 30% of his/her basic wage of 200%,” the advisory states.
DOLE also said that the business establishments that have totally closed during the community quarantine period are exempted from the holiday pay rule.
Eid al-Adha is an Islam holiday along with Eid’l Fitr. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail to obey God’s command. Muslim people usually present sacrifices including sheep, goats, cows and camels during the event.
