July 20, 2021 Declared as Regular Holiday In Observance of Eid’l Adha, President Duterte Says

President Rodrigo Duterte has issued a proclamation declaring July 20, 2021 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha.

The Malacañang Palace announced that President Duterte approved July 20, 2021 as a regular holiday over the entire Philippines in observance of the Muslim holiday Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Proclamation 1189 has been released on Thursday (July 16, 2021) and signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea with the authority given by President Duterte. The holiday has been declared to give Filipinos the full opportunity to observe the holiday.

Regular Holiday

However, Muslim Filipinos were advised to observe the health protocols and physical distancing measures during the observance of Eid’l Adha, which is one of the two most important holidays in Muslim community.

“The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended that 20 July 2021 be declared a national holiday, in observance of Eid’l Adha, The observance of Eid’l Adha shall be subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures,” the proclamation reads.

Eid al-Adha is an Islam holiday along with Eid’l Fitr. It commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail to obey the command of God. Muslims usually offer animals such as sheep, goats, cows and camels during the holiday.
