DOH Says No Case of Lambda COVID-19 Variant Recorded in PH

DOH – The Department of Health spoke on the Lambda variant of COVID-19 that was first detected in Peru and has spread in other countries now.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken healthcare systems across the globe, cost lives, put down businesses, affected the learning the education sector, prompted travel restrictions, and a lot more. More than 200 countries and territories in the world are greatly affected the pandemic.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the pandemic may take several years and countries must not let their guards down early. Even the international body was alarmed by how fast the said coronavirus disease spread.

It has been a year now since WHO declared COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, several variants of the coronavirus have been detected in different countries.

Currently, the variant of concern is the Delta variant of COVID-19 which was first detected in India. The said coronavirus variant brought a devastating situation in India as patients flocked in the hospitals. Doctors pleaded for help as they ran out of resources for the treatment and they reached their full capacity.

Another variant of COVID-19, the Lambda variant, is currently being monitored as some experts spotted similarities between it and the Delta variant. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it was first detected in Peru and several other countries have also logged cases of the said variant.

According to the report, the Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) expressed that they have yet to record a case of the Lambda variant of COVID-19. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III expressed that the implementation of the border control must continue to prevent the entry of the said variant of coronavirus.

Aside from Peru, Argentina and Chile also recorded cases of the said COVID-19 variant. Currently, further studies about the said coronavirus variant are ongoing.
