Ex-Boxing Champ Eden Sonsona Arrested During Buy-Bust of Illegal Drugs
Police arrested ex-champ of the Philippines Eden Sonsona during a buy-bust operation due to illegal drugs in General Santos City.
Eden Sonsona, a former two-time Philippine boxing champion, was arrested when he was caught up in a drug-bust operation in Barangay Apopong. Sonsona was under observation last month, according to Police Station 2 commander PMajor Patrick Elma.

Other boxers are said to have counseled Sonsona to cease selling illegal narcotics because it consumes all of his profits from boxing. The boxer was unable to make a statement after his arrest due to health protocols in jail.
The ex-boxer has also tested positive for illegal drug use, according to police. Sonsona will be charged with the selling and usage of shabu.
Sonsona, 32, won the WBF international super featherweight championship in 2017 and the WBC international Silver Super featherweight championship in 2015. After a technical knockout victory over Mexican contender Adrian Estrella in Mexico in May 2015, he won the WBC international super featherweight title.
In 2010, he knocked out Colombian Mauricio Pastrana on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey in Arlington, Texas. Sonsona’s last bout came on March 17, 2021 at General Santos City, when he lost to Cagayan de Oro City’s Rimar Metuda.
