Customs Seized Fake Cigarettes Worth P66.2 Million in Subic
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) operatives seized two shipments of fake cigarettes worth P66.2 million at the port of Subic.
A forty-footer container labeled as footwear and consigned to RNRS Trading landed at the port, according to the agency. On the same day, another shipment of cartons film bound for Heybronze Non-Specialized Wholesale Trading arrived at the port.
According to the BOC, both shipments were physically examined, and several phony cigarettes were discovered. Marvels Menthol, Marvels Filter, Two Moon Filter, Two Moon Menthol, Fort Menthol 100’s, Mighty Menthol, Champion, and Jackpot are among the counterfeit cigarettes.
On May 28, seizure and detention warrants were obtained against the shipments. A case of violation of NTA Memorandum Circular No. 03, NTA Board Resolution No. 079-2005, Republic Act 8293 or the Philippine Intellectual Property Code, and Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Meanwhile, a Muntinlupa City employee and his alleged accomplice were arrested by NBI officers for allegedly extorting money and swindling a citizen who was applying for city licenses. The suspects would process the requested permits in two weeks if their client would pay the demanded price right away.
However, one of their clients seeks the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI’s) assistance after one of the suspects allegedly refused to release the permits and ask for additional payment. As a result, the NBI conducted an entrapment operation to arrest the two fraudsters.
