Duterte Approves Lowering of Height Requirement for PNP, 3 Other Gov’t Institutions

Pres. Duterte OKs to Lowering PNP Height Requirement

DUTERTE – Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the lowering of the height requirement in the Philippine National Police (PNP) and three (3) other gov’t agencies.

A lot of people have their hearts fixed for public service not by being a politician but being a part of the uniformed personnel. Many want to be a part of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the Bureau of Jail Management (BJMP), and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

However, not everyone who has a heart for these jobs and for public service as a whole can freely join the team. It is because of the requirements. There are both documentary and physical requirements.

Previously, applicants for PNP, BJMP, BFP, and BuCor personnel must be at least 5’3″ for the male and 5’2″ for the female. There were bills in the past that sought to make changes in these requirements.

Under the presidency of former Pres. Benignoy “Noynoy” Aquino III, the former Chief Executive vetoed the bills that sought to lower the height requirements for PNP and other uniformed personnel. He cited the nature of the jobs in these institutions.

Recently, under the term of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, changes in the height requirement for entrance to the PNP and other uniformed personnel are welcomed. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Chief Executive signed the Republic Act 11549 with the said intention.

Under the new law, the height requirement for the entrance to the PNP and other uniformed personnel is 5 feet and 2 inches for male and 5 feet for female. The author of the bill signed by the President is Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

The former Chief of PNP believes that the “sacrifice, dedication and service to the country” cannnot be measured by the physical characteristics. Aside from the height requirement, the new law also waived the height requirements for those applicants from the indigenous people.
