Marc Pingris Retires, Coach Tim Cone Message For His Favorite Player

MARC PINGRIS – Professional basketball player Marc Pingris announced his retirement from PBA and here’s Coach Tim Cone’s message for him.

There’s an end to everything and it seems like “Pinoy Sakuragi” Marc Pingris has already seen the end of his journey in PBA. He’s into this for 16 years now and he was dubbed as one of the best big men of his generation. He announced his retirement on Instagram, Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-4 forward is most-loved and well-recognized for his contributions in Purefoods team to win seven titles including a Grand Slam in 2014. In his post, he recalled the vivid memory he has when called as one of the draft players in PBA way back 2004 which is a dream of a little boy working in a wet market. And after 16 years, with his dreams coming true and living it for a long time, he felt like he is now ready for another chapter of his life.

He thanked every single person in his life for helping him and believing in him. He expressed gratitude to his bosses, coaches, teammates, family, friends, GILAS family, PBA fans, wife Danica Pingris and two daughters, and God. Among his special mentions in Coach Tim Cone who is among the people who made him the man that he is now and for helping him reach his dream.

“COACH TIM, it’s because of you that I grew to understand the sport as more than a game. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to become part of history with our 2014 grand slam. I am proud to have played the game we both love with you,” he said in his post.

Pingris played under the Barangay Ginebra coach with the Purefoods franchise from 2011 to 2015. “End of an era,” Cone wrote on Twitter as he paid tribute to his favorite player who announced his retirement. It added, “Certainly one of a kind. I loved, in every way, coaching Ping. Tough as nails on the court and gentle in spirit off it.”
