DOH Suggests LGUs Not To Announce COVID-19 Vaccine Brand To Be Given

DOH Speaks on Suggestion to LGUs of Non-Announcement of COVID-19 Vaccine Brand To Give

DOH – The Department of Health suggested to local government units (LGUs) not to announce the COVID-19 vaccine brand they will be giving.

The goal to achieve a herd immunity against COVID-19 is really a long way to go but the national government is eyeing to get to it this year. That is why the authorities wants the vaccination target to increase.

The A1 and A2 categories in the vaccination ladder are composed of the medical frontliners, the senior citizens, and those who have comorbidities. They are the top priorities in the vaccination process.

A huge part of those who are under the A1 and A2 categories have already been vaccinated. The national government is eyeing to start the vaccination of the essential workers and the poor Filipinos by June.

With regards to the giving of vaccines, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Health (DOH) suggested to local government units (LGUs) not to announce the brand of the COVID-19 vaccine they will be giving.

COVID-19 Task Force’s former adviser, Dr. Tony Leachon, stressed that the non-announcement of the COVID-19 vaccine brand will prevent swamping of people in the vaccination sites. He believes that the brand of the vaccine is a factor on the people’s response to getting vaccinated.

Based on the report, Dr. Leachon expressed that the swamping of people may lead to a “superspreader event”. There are different brands of vaccines that arrived in the Philippines including Pfizer, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca.

Currently, around 3.2 million dozes of COVID-19 vaccines were administered to the Filipinos. Out of the said total number, around 768,000 recipients got their 2nd dose.
