Philippines Travel Ban Includes More Countries amid Fight Vs. COVID-19

PHILIPPINES – The PH national government expanded the travel ban in the country in line with the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Most countries across the globe now are in still in a battle against the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, new variants of this coronavirus disease were detected in several nations.

One of the newest COVID-19 variant detected was in India. Currently, the country is greatly suffering from the impacts of the pandemic that resulted to patients filling up their hospitals. Many died in India.

Amid the heartbreaking situation in India, several nations implemented restrictions on travelers from the said country as they are also in the pursuit to arrest the spread of COVID-19. One of these nations is the Philippines.

The Philippines set a travel ban on travelers from India and its surrounding countries – Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, PH extended its travel ban in the said areas and expanded the restrictions even more – now including travelers from Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, the travel ban is extended and expanded from May 15, 2021 to May 31, 2021. Meanwhile, those travelers who are already in transit before “0001 H” of May 15 will be allowed to enter the country provided they must follow the protocols.

The travelers from other countries must undergo a 14-day quarantine regardless of a negative COVID-19 test result. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) was tasked to make sure that travelers from countries included in the travel ban must not be allowed for boarding unless that are among those repatriated by the national government.
