Duterte Warns of Imposing “Stricter” Quarantine if COVID-19 Cases Spike Again

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte warned of imposing a “stricter” quarantine measure if the COVID-19 cases will spike again.

The COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines now requires a tougher defense line. That is why the national government continue to remind the people to observe the proper health protocols to fight the spread of the coronavirus disease.

The total cases of coronavirus recorded in PH has surpassed the 1-million mark. New variants of the said coronavirus disease have also been detected in the country. It is one of those that recorded that variant that was first logged in India.

Hospitals in India are facing a surge of COVID-19 patients to the point of shortage of oxygen and other facilities. Many countries including the Philippines set temporary restrictions on travelers from India.

In the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines which led to the total cases going beyond the 1-million mark, the national government placed the whole Metro Manila under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). The provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Rizal were also placed under the said measure for weeks.

The measure was downgraded to Modified ECQ after several days and, now, the NCR Plus is under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with “heightened” restrictions.

Despite the easing of the community quarantine measure in the epicenter of the spread of COVID-19, Pres. Rodrigo Roa reminded the public that the key in fighting the pandemic is in the obedience of the people. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he warned of imposing a “stricter” measure if the cases will spike again.

Pres. Duterte stressed the possibility of another spike in the COVID-19 cases is people will not follow the health protocols most especially amid the emergence of new variants. Based on the report, the daily cases recorded in Metro Manila has already decreased.

However, the authorities were alarmed by the increase in the “average daily attack rate” in ten (10) regions in the country. The following regions are currently under monitoring:

  • Region IV-B
  • Region V
  • Region VI
  • Region VIII
  • Region IX
  • Region X
  • Region XI
  • Region XII
  • CARAGA
  • BARrM
